Who are you the love child of?
Indiana Jones and Bernadette Peters
What most excites you about your work & the contribution you can make?
I love helping families in this incredible transition period and watching them grow together. A new baby is a new start and whether this is your first child or you’re Michelle Duggar, there is always something to learn! I try to ease communication and help you have your best experience, whether you are planning a hospital birth or laboring in your back yard.
Quick. Word association. What words describe you?
Dedicated, energetic, positive
What draws you to working with expectant women and new families?
As someone who had two challenging pregnancies, I strive to help women feel prepared and confident going into their births. I hope to help them envision what they want and assist in getting there.
Favorite resources for new families?
A mama tribe! There are amazing books (Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth, The Official Lamaze Guide, The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Pregnancy, Penny Simkin’s The Birth Partner, etc.) and web sites (kellymom.com, scienceandsensibility.org, spinningbabies.com), but like-minded friends are such a tremendous resource! My #1 advice is to find parents who have similar aged children and interests as you and bond! There is almost never only one way to resolve challenges in the prenatal and postpartum period and the opportunity to hear a variety of experiences and options can be so very helpful. When you are having a difficult moment, it is important just to have people listen and sympathize, even if they are not able to solve whatever the problem is.
Favorite moment(s) at work?
I love watching dads come into their own; for moms, pregnancy makes the idea of a baby so much more real much earlier – for most dads, it doesn’t *really* hit home until they’re holding a newborn. I love witnessing dads support their partners and see how amazing birth is.
Favorite TV show or movie?
I am on a big Sherlock kick lately, but I’ll binge watch almost anything. The West Wing, Modern Family, Game of Thrones, Grey’s Anatomy…
What would be impossible for you to give up?
my iPhone, my wraps, caramel brûlée lattes (Seriously, I would like to campaign Starbucks to make them a year-round offering. Who’s in?)
Where can we find you when you’re not working? What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend or a Sunday afternoon?
In the summer, nothing beats a beach day, and I love to go stand on line at TKTS and see a show any time. I also really value small moments to recharge in peace and quiet; one of the nicest things my husband does is take the kids for an afternoon and send me off for sushi all by myself.
How do you want your clients to remember you?
Warm, passionate, helpful, kind
